Pine forest, sandy soil, and a quiet but devoted scene. BMB Off-Road Park, Desoto Cycle Ranch up north of Hernando, Golden Pine Raceway, Meridian OHV. Mississippi dirt is mostly fast-draining sand-loam with some red-clay patches in the north. Tracks tend to ride looser than what you'll find in Alabama or Georgia just east of here, and prep crews here water heavier as a result. Season runs effectively year-round if you respect July and August; spring (March-May) is the prime weather window. The state is small enough that riders here cross over into Louisiana, Alabama, and west Tennessee on the regular for a fuller calendar. Tornado weather rolls through in spring and can kill a Saturday in an hour. Pine pollen coats everything in April. Otherwise, the weather is more forgiving than it looks on paper, and the dirt here ranks among the most consistent in the southeast once you know how it handles.
